China aims for higher energy targets
Monday, July 6th, 2009China is considering raising their energy efficiency targets again. According to China Daily, China will aim for producing 10% of its energy needs from sustainable sources by 2010, 15% by 2020. Some government officials say that China will hit 20% renewable energy use by 2020. Catchy slogan in there somewhere – 20% by 2020, hm?
Fact is that there is a worldwide race to become the dominant supplier of renewable and sustainable energy technology, and China is gearing up to win it. They’ve already passed the U.S. in terms of top companies in the renewable energy business and are power-walking their way to the top. If the U.S. wants to be a contender in this newest Energy Race, we’re going to have to stop whining about how much it costs and denying that there’s even a reason to change, and get our butts in gear and off the starting block.
